Panda Cub Adventure

Rolling out @ noon on Friday to San Diego.
IMAX - Hubble telescope space movie. :)

Saturday: S.D. zoo to visit panda cub and mom and other cute guys.
I love pandas!!!!!I am certain pandas are magical creatures.Gonna wear bamboo perfume and carry a cub-size back pack. :)Sunday: Museums @ Balboa Park. There are like 15 museums - art, history, culture, man, space, science...
and back home.Will get in a few nice dinners as well.

...it's me and the 2nd graders.I leave work, drive over the school across the street from my house, and read to the kids for half an hour.
My choice of book and activities.We have lots of fun!
I open up their minds and make them think.They rock so big.

Today was Space and Planets and Art.The Space story has chapters and I read a few each session.
Adventure: Two kids on the Moon.

Switched over to a cool ass Planet poem book.
Read a few poems.The finale was creating art planets. I cut out large and small planets from bright colorful paper. Draw planet on one side and write a space poem on the other side.

TRUE STORY: Today as I walked about the tables to see how the poems were going, one little cute cute w/combo big rick rack and baby teeth says, "Jeannine Smart, did you ever see Ninja Assassin?" I chopped in the air, hiyahhed and say, "No, did you?" He says, "Yes and guess what?!!? It's Rated R!!" He proceeded to tell of a basket, a sword, blood and me and his 3 table-mates all ew-ed and squirmed.As I downed the steps to the office to turn in my volunteer badge of honor, I saw one of the kids on the bottom floor. I said, "Did you escape?" He said, "No, restroom." He ran up the stairs, stopped, popped his cute little curly top head over the railing and said, "next week, bring treats!" I said, "I didn't know I could." He said, as ambassador for all children everywhere, "yes, you can!" I said, "like what? Cookies? Candy?" Him, "bring bread... you can't bring candy... bring cookies... bring chocolate chip cookies!" and he ran away.I love this experience I share with them weekly.What a treat to creatively influence children.

I do Raw Food Mondays.Takes preparation on my part, that's why I picked Monday so I can get ready over the weekend. Now I don't do dehydrators or grow my own sprouts but I do go to Whole Foods and buy a few luscious items to add to my greens, fruit, raw nuts mix. Try the Zen Energy Balls, they are delicious, like candy, sweets, but raw and good for you! :)

You need to have lots of raw food options on deck to select from. And don't wait till you get hungry, nibble early and keep nibbling.It really makes me think about food. I usually go to bed early so I can stop thinking about food.Today made Raw Food Monday #7.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no veggie, I'll eat a cheeseburger and love it!

Today, tomorrow are Board off site days.Our once-a-year gathering at a hotel, away from the office. This time in the Universal Studios area, 21st floor.What a great view.
I love living in Los Angeles! (L.A. County Map)
This is one big ass city, full of everything you can think of and more!On my first visit to L.A., way back in the day, I loved how the homes were all stuck here and there into the hillsides. Today's view accommodated my pleasure. Scattered homes at eye-level and below. Great big city of new, change, the same, invention, hopes, dreams, reality, all good! Brave people living here. L. A. is not for everyone. It is for me.

Participated in the New Moon, New Year meditation @ the Psychic Eye. "Forest" the leader of the talk and guided meditation was awesome. A bundle of good energy, on track, smart, connecting dots, tuned in.
Not intentionally, I saw the New Moon - Twilight movie tonight. (Yeah, I know teen age girl movie but there were vampires and werewolves and hotness.)

I heard, the sun is the center of the universe, twice today as well.

Last night watching a A Single Man, (go see it, very good film!) I saw a floating body in water, beautiful... poetic, unconscious, emotions, the inside out...
Tonight I saw a floating body in water, beautiful, dancing ever so slightly...

So I guess that makes it three things twice.

Time...Review your year.
What was the best part?
The best part of my year was the night I camped in the Joshua Tree desert. The sky was amazing, unbelievable with stars, all the stars, natural glorious beauty, so vast, so connected. I did my best to suck in the experience, to etch it in my mind, to store it for later retrieval. I have relived it several times since. I cannot define the visual of the night sky densely laden with stars and planets and spaceness universes. Complete, total peak experience.

What gains did you make?How are you different now then December 2008?

I've done some soul searching and have my list, there may be more Ms. Smart insight yet to be uncovered.

I had an excellent day!

My Mom called and loved her birthday gifts - clothes, two new outfits!! My dad said she put on a fashion show, hee hee. Living in the northern part of the mitten known as Michigan with 18 inches of powdery sparkly snow.Work was good, productive, flowed, had a few laughs and a few good surprizes.
I throw a lunch party for my staff at Christmas, we go out, we order in, cater.... this year I invited them to my home (this Thursday.) Today they asked if they could bring guests. :) Excellent! Sounds like a party.Been busy on a freelance creative branding project with some interesting men, and it is really coming together.

My son texted and reported A's in university-level trigonometry and biology!! I am so proud of him and his dedication to his schooling. It is so awesome to see him put in the effort and learning and reaching new knowledge heights. He is rocking the education tip big time!Every Tuesday, I go read for a half an hour to a group of 2nd grade kids. I love it! They are so fun. The kids are somewhere between little kids and knowing what is really going on, they still believe almost anything. They are playful and open-minded.So today I go in and they made me a gift. Each kid drew me a picture and wrote a note to me thanking me for reading to them each week. OMG! I am overwhelmed. It is pure magic. It is sitting next to me. I have not looked through it yet. While I was there, they huddled around me and showed me their page. "See, I made it red, because red is your favorite color". "See, I drew you reading to us." "I'm sorry I was crawling around on the rug and disrupting the class last time." "See this, as he shoved a small red box 3 inches from my face, inside a small tooth lay." I am so touched. The cover is red with colored tissue paper fancy around a big Thank You. This is the most excellent thing ever.My heart is full.

I have an excellent life and it keeps getting better.

This metal squirrel + fresh farmer's market organic walnuts = a remark he made.

I have this metal squirrel.
He gets angry when I don't fill his bowl with nuts.
But other than that, he's pretty slick.

I purchased walnuts from the farmer's market in Los Feliz, Sunday.
Man are they good!I just cracked and ate some and was reminded of what he would say about me, "you're a hard nut to crack."

I suppose I am just that.
Easy going with certain caveats.Walnuts are good for ya, eat up.

I have this jar of marbles. It lives in a dish, on my dresser, in my bedroom. I start with an empty jar in the middle of the saucer and the marbles surround it. Oh, probably about 30 so marbles. Every time I do something special, grow, do the right thing even when it's hard, take the extra step, learn something, take that leap of faith, trust in my self and act bravely - I drop a marble in the jar.

I love that jar.

When my jar gets filled with marbles, I write the date on a small piece of paper. I chart my growth. I then ceremoniously empty the jar, spread out the marbles and start over.The marble jar was a gift from back in 1991.

This is a physical act I do to acknowledge my own development.

I did good today. I stepped my game up. I came from my big place. I was kind and mentored someone who treated me like Cinderella last week. I got over someone getting under my skin, choose to be balanced and happy and to look at things from another perspective. I came from love. It worked. I rocked.I love that I live and learn, and realize it during the experience.

Life is good.

I had a great day!Veteran's Day = day off w/pay for me.
Slept in.
Coffee, blog action.
Went to Griffith Park and the Observatory.All cool space stuff, planets, stars, ideas, pendulums swinging on the Earth's axis. The best experience was the planetarium show -awesome! Big domed ceiling, loungey chairs, sound, clouds into stars, moon, sun, constellations, stories, concepts, Milky Way, Galaxies, black matter, black energy, the universe!

But why?

When an asteroid of desire sharply orbited into me, I realized something I wanted.Funny how want hits you.This thought began with hearing an old acquaintance on NPR yesterday. She wrote a new book.
I logged on to npr.com to see what she was up to. I kept going, her web site, photos, her blog...
She has several published books.
She has been on several publication's cover or featured inside.
Good for her.
She stuck with her interests and has reached a popular measure of success.
I mean, npr is not too shabby a communication vehicle for a book review.
I was flashing past, who she was; now, much the same.

Enter asteroid.
I want a published book!

I have wants that I didn't know. I wonder what else I want?
I am dedicating this weekend to uncovering and pulling my wants to the surface.
Gonna polish up those wants.
Gonna set goals of those wants, make plans, and take the first steps.This would all be under the guise of my work/life balance umbrella which I am still getting wet from, yet making progress on staying dry.

The other day I had just placed all my delicious grocery items on the conveyor belt.
The belt was moving.
I was gazing up at the magazines thinking, I want one.
Hmmm, maybe the Real Simple, cover looks good, it's a decent magazine... my hand reaching out, I'm bending over the belt...
When suddenly a Log Ladyish gets all up in my grill, like four inches from my face, and says hurriedly, "Don't go to the pools tonight."
I was taken aback.
She was scurrying away.
I said, "What?!"
She came back in and repeated, "Don't go to the pools tonight."
In a span of seconds... my mind whirls. WTF?!?!?! What's the connection. Is this a spy ring? The ships sails at midnight? What? What? Thinking... well I do go to the pools three times a week but I never engage a soul.
I said, "Do you see me at the pools?"
She said, "Yes."
I said, "Okay."
Again with the, "Don't go to the pools tonight."
I said, "What, the fires?"
She said, "Yes, the pools are closed."
I said, "Okay"
She was off in a flash.
It was weird.
It was the 2009 Pool/Log Lady.
I liked it.

Once upon a time, I had a Popeye coloring book. Inside was art of Olive Oyl all legs and boots being chased by Brutus (or in some parts known as Bluto) and he had his fingers out all wiggling in front of him trying to catch her. The caption: "Oh, the price of beauty." hahaha I love that bit.I love red lipsticks! I love lipsticks. I have 100 lipsticks. Really!
I just adopted three more - bright orange-red, dark pinky-orangish red, bright solid ruby red!!! Yep my night's booty treasure consisted of makeup and a box of nice chocolates.Tra la la
I deserve it.

I woke up last night to a bad dream.

Well, I guess I went to bed with it. It was hovering, I recognized it knocking on me and could not pin it down or Jedi mind trick it away. I thought sleep was the answer, to shut it down. Nope, sleep just gave it time to bubble up and spew forth in a stress night volcano. Ugh.

This past week during our group mentoring session we reviewed stress, matched to our Meyers Briggs type (Ms. Smart = ENTP). They asked how are you at your best? Your worse? What situations cause you to to go into those best and worse modes?

This week I got a big truckload of the "worse" situation inducers. I am fighting it but man I am stressed, over-wrought, overwhelmed, and not happy about it.I am being forced in a non-forceful company to use a performance evaluation program that I do not believe in. It will cause me so much more work and to what end? There is a self-evaluation portion that staff has to fill out and then discuss with me - why? This is going to cause conflict and tension and ruin good working relationships. I have to do the same with the assistant CEO. Why? It also has a section for me to rate and comment on my self in 8 categorizes with at least 6 items in each one. Plus the day to day goals to do my job. Anddddddd the fiscal year goals. And any personal goals. And if I rate myself better than the average I have to list point to prove my rating. Within the program are pre-written insincere messages too. I hate that shit. This is such a nightmare. No one asked the managers what they wanted, what would be helpful. This is so top-down and company is bottom-up. I do an excellent job and my goal is to strive for more of a work/life balance. This program is counter productive to my goal. This program is going to cause me a lot more work and make good relations, bad. I am so stressed over this. I feel sick about it. I also feel like I can not voice my feelings on it or I will labeled as not going with change. This change is not reasonable. This change is not helpful, it is harmful and stressful and way to detailed. I also have a problem doing things that I do not feel or believe in.

Sigh

I have so much work to do already. I am short four staff members and now I am being forced to take on something else in a manner that does not fit my style of working or that I do not believe in. There is also punishment attached to this program. If I don't do it, I won't get a raise. This does not feel good. I am beside myself over this.I woke up at 3 AM last night and journaled 23 pages of venting to get it out of me. I listened to a meditation CD to get out of my misery and back to a smooth flow of being. Damn man. My tummy hurts.

I am going to have to talk with the CEO about this on Monday. This is too stressful to keep in. That is going to be one tough conversation, lots of disclaimers required. Send good juju my way - thanks.
